Chaucer’s Books will host historian Joe Coohill for a book talk and signing of “Ireland: A Short History,” 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at 3321 State St., Santa Barbara.

Coohill will be joined by writer Lorissa Rinehart, aurhor of “First to the Front: The Untold Story of Dickey Chapelle, Trailblazing Female War Correspondent.”

From the first prehistoric inhabitants of the island to the Windsor Framework for Northern Ireland, Coohill’s account of Ireland and its people reveal how modern Irish society is the product of a rich, multi-valent history.

Combining factual information with a critical approach, the author covers key events, including the Great Famine, Home Rule, the Good Friday Agreement, and Brexit.

Now an administrator at UCSB and occasional instructor of history classes at SBCC, Coohill has taught at universities in England and the U.S.

He is also the producer and host of the “Professor Buzzkill History Podcast.”
