Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools Susan Salcido is accepting applications for the second annual Santa Barbara County Student Advisory Council.

The council offers a chance for high school students, from diverse regions throughout Santa Barbara County, to connect with the superintendent on issues affecting students, schools, and communities.

Salcido and her team support 20 public school districts and 10 charter schools serving 70,000 children and youth. The superintendent is ardent about creating opportunities to elevate student voice and bring students together to share their ideas and perspectives.

Student Advisory Council members will participate in four meetings led by the superintendent covering a variety of topics. They may also be invited to be part of a variety of countywide events such as presenting to the County Board of Education or joining the Salcido on campus visits.

All students attending Santa Barbara County public high schools (grades 9-12) are eligible to apply.

“In its second year, the Student Advisory Council is an exciting opportunity for students to connect across the county and share their unique perspectives,” said Salcido. “I’m eager to learn from this council and look forward to hearing directly from students about how we are doing in meeting their needs in schools.”

Meetings will be held on:
• Saturday, Oct. 28, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in-person at the Santa Barbara County Education Office
• Tuesday, Jan. 16, 4:30-6:30 p.m. (in-person, with multiple location options)
• Tuesday, March 12, 4:30-6:30 p.m. (in-person, with multiple location options)
• Saturday, May 4, 9:30-11:30 a.m. (in-person, location TBD)
• Attendance is required at all meetings, and meals will be provided.
