I suspect most readers would appreciate the adult in the room during any conflict tactfully suggesting “Let us reason together.”
That’s what I believe most in this world would prefer rather than the divisiveness we all face daily.
By the way, those were the opening remarks of God Almighty presented to Isaiah in a vision found in Isaiah 1:18.
Yes, He was speaking to the Tribe of Judah nearly 3,000 years ago, but those four little words ring as true today as they did then.
Sadly, we remain a stubborn lot more concerned with our own well-being then the well-being of humankind.
Other versions of that particular scripture use words like “settling our issues” and “debating our differences.” Having a two-way dialogue on our differing opinions can be quite healthy.
Let me share an older edition of the New International Version of Isaiah 1:18-20.
“‘Come now, let us reason together,’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
As you can see, this particular promise of God requires a righteous and obedient heart.
Unfortunately, many have no concern at all for the views and needs of others. They are consumed in their selfish motives and boldly present their arguments using unethical emotion rather than proven logic.
They will even go so far as to use dishonesty to persuade others to their way of thinking. In my opinion, their tactics are of the devil!
Our courts of law require defense and prosecuting attorneys to build their case on available facts. They must present those facts before a judge and possibly a jury that will listen to their arguments and, hopefully, render appropriate judgment in the case being deliberated.
And when it comes down to our relationship with our Creator — the Judge of All — we would be wise to seriously consider His written instruction to those He made in His image.
He deserves and expects our reverence and our obedience. Should you take the position that His Word does not matter and would prefer to live a life of willful disobedience, you will be taking the great risk of eventually receiving His eternal wrath.
That’s not His desire for any, but He gives us free will and there is a certain consequence for such willful disobedience.
Please consider His gift of salvation which is available to all through the ultimate sacrifice of His only Son, Christ Jesus!
