Lobero LIVE will host An Evening with Cowboy Junkies, 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 21 at the Lobero Theater, 33 E. Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara.

Throughout their 35-plus year career, the band has maintained a creative vision that’s inspired them to write some their own material and to find unexplored landscapes in the work of other songsmiths.

Formed in Toronto, Canada, in 1985 with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, and Timmins’ lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass, the band has produced 26 albums. Their newest “Such Ferocious Beauty” was released worldwide on June 2.

Cowboy Junkies’ unique sound – using an ambisonic microphone and mixing country, folk, rock, and jazz – earned them both critical attention and a cult following. The band’s ability to communicate volumes before the lyrics kick in defines an enduring career.

In 2022, the group brought out “Songs of the Recollection,” a collection of performances of songs they loved by other notable artists.

“Such Ferocious Beauty,” offering a tangle of sonic textures, is a rumination on aging, losing parents, facing mortality and creating space for one’s life in the midst of the ruin that comes from merely living.
