Montessori Center School’s fourth- through sixth-grade students received a visit recently from local children’s author Valerie Hobbs, who has written a number of award-winning books for young.

Hobbs’ books include such titles as Defiance, The Last Best Days Of Summer, Sheep, and Wolf. Students at the school in Goleta began preparation for the author’s visit by reading several of her works.

Hobbs’ presentation included a discussion of her stories as well as a Q&A session in which the students could ask thoughtful questions about the writing process, the author’s favorite books, and how to pursue a career in writing.

“We are grateful to have talented children’s authors like Valerie Hobbs visit our school,” said MCS librarian Anne Curtin. “Through these author appearances, our students receive firsthand knowledge about the writing process, while fostering a love of reading and writing in our students.”
