The Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD) will hold its annual Día de los Muertos celebration, 2-7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the El Camino Campus, 320 North J St.

This year’s theme, Honoring Our Cultures to Inspire Our Future, invites families and community members to join in celebration of diverse backgrounds and culture represented in the Lompoc Unified School District and Lompoc Valley.

The day of free activities will feature:
● Cultural altars honoring loved ones
● Student art displays showcasing local talent
● Live entertainment to engage and inspire
● Face painting for kids and adults alike
● Catrina contests to celebrate the iconic figure of La Catrina
● Arts and crafts stations for all ages
● Pan de muerto and hot chocolate to warm the spirit
● Booths from community organizations providing resources and information

“We invite everyone to join us in this celebration of life, remembrance, and cultural pride,” said Tom Blanc, LUSD Board of Trustees member. “I am pleased that we are continuing to engage our community in this tradition.

“Over 70% of our students are Latino, and this event honors our culture in a way that is authentic and beautiful.”

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to come together, learn, and create lasting memories while honoring our ancestors,” said Brian Jaramillo, assistant superintendent of Education Services for LUSD. “Events like Día de Los Muertos help to remind us of the importance of our connections to our past and one another.”
