Robert Lee “Bob” Musgrove passed away December 12, 2011, at his home in Santa Ynez, California, after a lengthy illness.

He was born September 18, 1930, to Gladys and Guy Musgrove in Pomona, California. He attended Pomona High School.

After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, Robert returned to Pomona. Driven by his true business spirit, he took over his father’s company, Musgrove Plastering.

Robert then moved into real estate, co-developing the hillside project of Claraboya. He went on to take a management position developing the planned community of Westlake Village for the American Steamship Company.

Robert was one of the cornerstone founders of the new community. There he became an avid tennis player and volunteered as chairman of the annual “Love Match” Celebrity Tennis Tournament to benefit United Cerebral Palsy.

After 30 years in Westlake Village, Robert retired to ranch life in Santa Ynez, where he enjoyed his favorite activities, including horseback riding, competitive shotgun shooting and hunting.

Bird hunting was Robert’s true passion. He enjoyed numerous trips, some as far away as Argentina and Africa. He enjoyed the early morning suspense as he waited for the sun to rise almost as much as he enjoyed the quality time with family and friends.

He was a man of few words, but the words he spoke always carried with them his sense of humor, generosity and goodwill. Robert has been and always will be at the heart of a very special family that admires him, appreciates him and loves him very much.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Caryn, Tracey and Gregg; Caryn’s husband, Cary, and their children, Breanne, Shauna and Ian; Tracey’s husband, Charlie, and their sons, Josh, Casey and Bobby (named after Robert); Gregg’s wife, Corine, and their children, Brody and Parker; Sherry’s daughter, Dawn, her husband, Sonny, and their son Zane; Robert’s sister, Betty Frampton, her husband, Gail, and their children, Cory, Kevin, Darcy and Chad.

A small family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Santa Ynez Gun Club Youth Program, P.O. Box 453, Santa Ynez 93460.
