The Chicago Cubs selected UCSB right-handed pitcher Ryan Gallagher with the 182nd overall pick in the 6th Round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday.

Gallagher joins Matt Ager as the Gauchos to be chosen in the 2024 Draft.

A dominant 2024 season catapulted Gallagher into MLB Draft consideration, as he was a key piece in helping the Gauchos to a Big West title and a regional host.

This past season, he finished with a 10-1 record in 14 starts, registering a 2.22 ERA and striking out 96 batters in 89 innings while holding opponents to a .161 batting average.

His stellar performance earned him Big West Pitcher of the Year honors and he collected five All-American selections.

Gallagher took over the role as the team’s ace midway through the season and capped it all off with a win over Fresno State in the opener of the Santa Barbara Regional.

Earlier in his Gaucho career, Gallagher was named the Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year in 2022 and was an All-Big West Second Team selection.

In that season, the 6-foot-4 pitcher posted a perfect 8-0 record in 15 starts, including 67 strikeouts in 83 innings.

He will now enter a Chicago Cubs organization that has produced plenty of homegrown talent in recent years.
