The Santa Maria-Bonita School District (SMBSD) support specialist Jennifer Quaresma was been honored by the Santa Barbara County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) during its 7th Annual SELPA-Bration.
Recognized for the Special Education Related Service Provider category, Quaresma was one of 10 honorees throughout the county at the May 14 event held in Goleta.
The Santa Barbara County Community Advisory Committee made up of parents and professionals reviewed the nominations and cast their individual votes before winners of the SELPA Star were named.
Amber Walz, coordinator for Educational Services: Special Education at SMBSD, said Quaresma has worked tirelessly in support of students for more than 15 years at the district.
“She consistently puts her whole heart in the work she does and ensures students are at the center of every discussion and decision made,” Walz said.
“Jennifer deeply believes in the mission and vision of SMBSD bringing more inclusive opportunities to every school campus,” Walz said. “She is truly the heart of the work we do every day in SMBSD.”
The SELPA Star award celebrates those who set the standard for excellence in special education, elevating the quality of service and support of all students.
“These honorees are more than award recipients. They are guiding lights, helping us navigate forward and inspiring our shared journey toward exceptionalism,” according to the organization.
