The Santa Barbara City College Board of Trustees is reopening the superintendent/president position to new applicants after announcing last week that it has extended the search.

According to the extension timeline from the board, applications for position will be reopened from March 31 to April 16, with the screening committee — that will remain the same — reviewing applications between April 17 and 23.

Campus visits and public forums for any additional finalists are scheduled for May 8-10, with board interviews and deliberation set for May 15-20.

Three finalists for the position had already been chosen and participated in public forums earlier this month, before the trustees announced the search’s extension a week later.

The finalists were Erika Endrijonas, Pasadena City College superintendent/president; Richard Storti, executive vice chancellor of administrative services at San Mateo County Community College District; and Katrina VanderWoude, vice chancellor at Los Angeles Community College District.

The trustees said that the current finalists can remain in consideration, if desired.

Board President Jonathan Abboud previously said that the trustees intend to complete the process by July 1, and present any additional candidates in public forums by the end of the spring 2023 semester, which ends on May 20.

Kindred Murillo has been serving as the college’s interim superintendent/president since September 2021 after former Superintendent/President Utpal Goswami resigned in July 2021.

Murillo’s contract was originally set to end in September 2022, but was extended last January to continue through this September.

The trustees have not yet said why they decided to extend the superintendent/president search.
