A man suspected of driving a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run collision that killed a motor scooter rider in Santa Barbara last weekend was arraigned on criminal charges Tuesday in Superior Court in Santa Barbara.
Salvador Jimenez, 34, of Santa Barbara is facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, and driving with a suspended or revoked license, a misdemeanor, according to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.
The collision that killed Dane Murdock Angus, 31, of Santa Barbara occurred at about 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Santa Barbara and Cota streets.
Police have released few details about the collision, but witnesses told Noozhawk that the pickup driver kept going after the crash, with the scooter wedged underneath the front end of his vehicle.
The driver subsequently fled on foot.
Jimenez was arrested late Saturday night after turning himself in at the Santa Barbara police station.
He entered not-guilty pleas at his arraignment, and remained in custody Wednesday at the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.
Also arrested in connection with the collision was Estefani Guerrero, 26, of Santa Barbara.
She is charged with being an accessory after the fact, a felony, as well as concealing or destroying evidence, a misdemeanor.
Guerrero also turned herself in Saturday night, and was subsequently released on $20,000 bail.
She is due in court April 25 for arraignment.
Jimenez is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing setting and a bail hearing on Thursday.
A memorial for Angus — who was the production and design manager for Pure Joy Catering in Santa Barbara, and also ran his own candle company — is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday at East Beach — next to the Cabrillo Arts Pavilion at 118 E. Cabrillo Blvd.
