
The Santa Barbara Blues Society (SBBS) will present singer Nikki Hill, making her first local appearance as headliner for the 7:15 p.m. show Saturday, May 11 at Carrillo Recreation Center, 101 E. Carrillo St., Santa Barbara. Main Doors open at 7 p.m.
Originally from North Carolina, and raised in an environment of gospel music, Hill now lives in Memphis, Tennessee, and has become a purveyor of blues, R&B, rock, and roots music. She has released several albums and toured internationally.
Her band includes guitarist Laura Chavez, who in 2023 was the first woman ever to win the Guitarist of the Year Blues Music Award of the Blues Foundation.
Opening act will be harmonica player R.J. Mischo, now living in Ventura. Mischo has 15 albums to his name, and is considered one of the best living blues harmonica players.
Mischo will open the show with an acoustic set, 7:15-7:45 pm, with Hill’s band taking the stage at 8 p.m, playing two sets with an intermission.
Tickets are $10-$45 and will be available at the door the night of the show. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at SBBlues.org, with advanced purchasers allowed early admission at 6:45 pm.
SBBS members and Santa Barbara Jazz Society members plus one companion each receive a $5 discount admission.
