The Wildling Museum is currently accepting artist proposals for its third-annual Michele Kuelbs Tower Gallery Installation.

After converting the museum’s tower into an art installation space in 2019, the Wildling has, over the last two years, commissioned artists to install a creative, environmentally themed art installation in the space.

Past installation projects include Holli Harmon’s The Nature of Clouds, and current exhibiting artist-in-residence Kerrie Smith’s Portals & Pathways, on view through Feb. 28.

Artists living in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties are invited to apply for the 10-month exhibit opportunity, which will focus on oceans and underwater themes.

Proposals should explore an environmental topic, whether climate change, plastic pollution, overfishing, or similar environmental issues.

Deadline to submit proposals is March 1. The selected finalist’s installation will be on view in the Michele Kuelbs Tower Gallery from May 2023-March 2024.

In addition to being accessible to museum visitors, the Michele Kuelbs Tower Gallery is a highly-visible public-facing exhibit space seen through large windows by some 1.5 million annual visitors to Solvang, who pass by the intersection of Mission Drive and Fifth Street.
