Let’s go a bit deeper into this discussion of the Holy Spirit and what I call the secret sauce available to those leaders who obediently follow the Way of the Lord.
Submission to anyone or anything is not natural. There’s not much I would ever submit to in this life.
Yes, I did pledge to serve my country during a nearly five-year stint in the Army. Yet, if I had ever been commanded to take an action that was unethical and I was certain the command was unlawful, I would have never followed the directive.
And when it comes to following my Lord and Savior, His Word along with the Godly counsel of others will lead me to be submissive to His desires for my life.
Over the past 40 years of following Christ, I’ve certainly missed many opportunities to serve His perfect will.
Through many years of maturing and growing in my relationship with Christ, I now focus on Him much as an excellent waiter will focus on the needs of those tables he serves from a distance.
My desire is to be totally in His will.
All chefs have a secret sauce with special ingredients that make all the difference in the taste of whatever they prepare for their guests.
What we are about to do is start breaking down those special ingredients all believers need to consider in their walk with God.
After all, our No. 1 priority as His children should be to please Him during the short time we walk, talk and work on this planet. Then we can be certain He will gladly welcome us with open arms as we enter our celestial home.
Let’s start with the condition of our heart.
In 1 Samuel 13:13-14 the prophet informs King Saul “‘You acted foolishly,’ Samuel said. ‘You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.’”
These two short verses also tell us that the Lord expects our obedience to His Word. As His children, we must do our best to follow His ways.
The Holy Spirit, dwelling within the heart of every believer, will lovingly guide us, if we let Him, in righteous behavior that will ultimately be pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
Just as we naturally want to please our earthly parents and others who care about our well-being, we must likewise listen to the Holy Spirit and His Holy Word.
We’ll continue this discussion and get even deeper into the ingredients of the secret sauce available to every submissive leader.
