[Noozhawk’s note: TEDxSantaBarbara makes its debut Aug. 20 at The New Vic Theater in downtown Santa Barbara. As part of the advance publicity, Noozhawk will be republishing Mark Sylvester’s e-letters.]

It’s almost time for TED. Have you applied for a seat?
With these words, Chris Anderson, TED’s curator, kicks off the main show in Vancouver each March. It’s our favorite part of the event, as it means that the planning, strategizing and endless hours of preparing are over and it’s showtime.
If you missed last week’s speaker announcement, you can click here to see the speakers’ bios and get a sense of why we’ve invited them to the Aug. 20 TEDxSantaBarbara event at the New Vic Theater in downtown Santa Barbara.
We are almost sold out. Click here to submit your application today to attend the event.
Here’s what we’ve learned from your applications so far. You are deeply involved in the community, 90 percent of you have written about your service locally and nationally, and it’s very inspiring.
The answer to the question of how others describe you is interesting. The top five words are Connector, Entrepreneur, Business Leader, Change Agent and Social Entrepreneur. We’ll be sharing more of what we have learned about the audience from the stage at the event.
Make sure you’ve reserved your seat and, if you have friends who want to join us, send them to our website to sign up.
The Friends of TEDx Initiative
Many people in our community would like to support the efforts of TEDxSantaBarbara without calling attention to themselves or their organizations. They believe in the mission of TEDx and want our community to continue to focus on ideas worth spreading.
The Friends of TEDx is designed to provide a way for people and organizations to support the program anonymously.
The producers are sensitive to the confidential nature of this support and thank the founding members of the Friends of TEDx for suggesting a vehicle that allows them to participate easily in TEDxSantaBarbara. All contributions are tax-deductible and are managed by the Santa Barbara Foundation.

TEDxSantaBarbara Active and our Simulcast
What is an Active event? If you would like a less formal atmosphere to enjoy TEDx, you can watch the simulcast from the New Vic at the innovative new co-working space and TEDx partner, Impact Hub, at 1117 State St. Several conference rooms will be showing the talks, including a large open area where the talks can be viewed on a bigger screen. What’s different about Active viewing is that you can freely use devices, get up and wander, and have more freedom to move around. We’ll have room for 100.

For those who live out of town or who want host a viewing of TEDx in their home that day, the event will be streamed live online. Up to 1,000 people can see every speaker through our partner Citrix using their software, GoToWebinar. During the simulcast, you’ll be able to chat with other attendees while watching the talks.
Click here to register for the TEDxSantaBarbara simulcast. You do not need to complete an application to watch the stream.
Ticketing for the New Vic Theater and at the ImpactHUB simulcast is available on July 29.
