As we go through life, we gradually come to grips with the reality that our lives are quite fragile.
Having lived on this planet for more than 80 years, I believe that this is a topic I can certainly address.
Through those decades I’ve slowed down a bit and have seen some of my peers pass on from this life into eternity. Their lives are surely over in this realm, but their memories live on in those who knew them best.
There is no guarantee, but having longevity on both sides of my family tells me that reaching the age of 100 might well happen. If that’s God’s will for my life, so be it.
I can tell you that life is still a joy even with the aches and pain that comes with aging. Working out and eating properly has helped.
I’m quite careful driving and walking across intersections. Fortunately, my vision has not worsened over the past year or so.
I’ve come to conclude having a proper perspective on our purpose for the short time we have on this planet is critical.
For more than half my time I’ve understood that God has a real purpose for every one of His creations to be here for an allotted period of time.
As we look back on our lives, we can see the workmanship in our lives and the lives of others around us.
From Psalm 116:15: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” True saints finish well, and God is especially pleased with those are seen as such in His eyes.
That’s a worthwhile goal for all who follow Christ Jesus.
I often turn to the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians in Colossae as a reminder of our Lord’s desire for us to fulfill His purpose here on earth.
Listen to his instruction in Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
It saddens me to see so many living out their lives without any awareness nor knowledge of God’s purpose for placing them on this planet.
We’re not here to simply live out our worldly whims. There must be more to life.
Perhaps you should consider asking Him to show you what He has planned for your life going forward. Consider reading His Word and seeking His will for your life.
If you do, He will bless you as He has so many through the centuries.
If I haven’t been clear, let me state it another way. My strength is found in the Holy Spirit. He keeps me strong as I go through life’s trials.
The Lord sustains me and I gladly give Him all the glory!
