Community members in the Santa Ynez Valley are invited to celebrate National Walk & Roll to School Day, 8-8:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 6 at College/Santa Ynez Elementary, 3325 Pine St., Santa Ynez.
Participants will join Joan Hartmann, Third District Santa Barbara County supervisor; representatives from California Highway Patrol (CHP); and MOVE Santa Barbara County.
CHP and MOVE Santa Barbara County will have free bike safety giveaways and offer safety tips for bikers and walkers.
Constituents can drop by Hartmann’s sidewalk office hours to have a cup of coffee and discuss any topics of significance to the Santa Ynez Valley, organizers said.
“Being able to walk, ride a bike, or roll in the community gives children a strong sense of self-confidence and a better quality of life. And National Walk & Roll to School Day isn’t just for children. We encourage your elected officials to walk and bike, too,” said the National Center for Safe Routes to School, which has been working for some two decades to create safe conditions for walkable neighborhoods.
