Reflecting on the mid-20th century craze, the limbo, which originated in Trinidad and Tobago, has me questioning “Just how low can we go?”
Let’s first talk about the origin of this popular dance/ritual of this past century. African slaves apparently brought the dance to the Caribbean in the 19th century. It was customarily performed at wakes — perhaps as a ritual dance in honor of the departed member of the tribe.
The object of the dance is for all participants, on-by-one, to dance under the limbo bar at increasingly lower levels until a winner is declared.
It’s fine as a game or ritual, but I’d prefer to see us raising the bar rather than lowering it when it comes to the way we do life while we’re here on this planet.
It certainly appears at least that a growing faction would prefer to lower the standards established over past centuries.
The Judeo-Christian way of life has set the standard in most of the world over the past 2 millennia.
God’s Word, the Bible, has been the foundational building block on which the United States of America was established nearly 250 years ago. We are far from perfect, but our Articles of Confederation, the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were designed to incorporate principles that create a more perfect union for all blessed to be citizens of America.
These documents set the bar quite high.
Sadly, some conspire to lower that bar for their own selfish motives. One current example is the barbaric practice of many nations past that offered their young children to their gods as a sacrifice. Is full-term abortion really any different?
Our local church invited a guest speaker to present this topic recently. His talk provoked me to mention this sinful unethical behavior in this discussion.
A.J. Hurley was there in Washington, D.C., when five fully formed babies were uncovered at a local abortion clinic recently.
I truly believe that most people are appalled with the disgusting actions of those who promote the disobedient behavior so prevalent in society these days.
Listen to these words of wisdom from King Solomon found in Ecclesiastes 11:9: “Be happy, you men, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.”
There’s much foolishness in our midst, and we would be wise to defend the faith and stand strong against those who seem enamored with the quest to see “Just how low can we go?”
We need to get back into God’s Word and follow the wisdom conveyed by King Solomon in the Book of Proverbs!
I challenge you to read the following selected verses found in the Book of Proverbs!
