As we enter our 249th year as a Nation under God, I’d like to take a few moments to reflect on our great American heritage.
This country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Those who were intimately involved in the formation of this Great American Experiment sacrificed much.
Their motives were pure, and they truly desired to create a more perfect union for those who had journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for a better life.
These courageous voyagers landed at Plymouth Rock, Jamestown and numerous other coastal destinations to colonize this primitive land for the king of England.
Gradually, 13 colonies populated the Eastern coastline of this land of opportunity from Maine to Georgia. And, England opportunistically exploited more and more from its cash cow across the seas.
Taxation without representation became the battle cry culminating in the Boston Tea Party and eventually culminated in the Revolutionary War.
Many patriots would sacrifice all during the war that followed, and we were blessed with the formulation of our Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
There was no turning back. Later with the ratification of the Constitution, we became the Unites States of America.
Yes, we have weathered the tumultuous storm of civil unrest and the great War between the North and the South. Yet we overcame our differences and became a more perfect union.
Unfortunately, thousands upon thousands of lives were lost over seemingly irreconcilable ideological differences that still linger today. The Reconstruction era was neither easy nor complete, but we survived as a nation and eventually were brought even closer through two world wars.
Sadly, during the second half of the 20th century, many distanced themselves from God.
We no longer allowed prayer in our public schools. We experienced utter defeat in numerous overseas conflicts that lasted way too long.
Several generations have apparently lost a sense of pride in our past accomplishments and selfless acts for the good of the human race.
These past four years have been an extreme embarrassment in my opinion and we have fallen short of what I believe God expects of this nation.
Fortunately, it appears a revival of patriotism is taking place. Just as Israel weathered many corrupt and incompetent kings leading to their Babylonian captivity, God is bringing forth dynamic young leaders for such a time as this.
I truly believe God is not finished with us as a nation under God.
My prayer is simply this: “Lord, please heal our land and bring us back into your good, pleasing and perfect will for Your glory!”
