There’s much injustice in this world. Sadly, we can’t seem to agree what is and is not justified.
The rules I prefer to follow were created by God and written by Moses, and can be found in the earliest books of the Bible.
The books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy pretty much present what God expects from humankind during their short time here on earth.
Our U.S. Constitution incorporates many of those biblical rules as the foundation of our form of democratic government.
We are also blessed with the corporate responsibility to amend this document as we attempt to become a more perfect nation.
Unfortunately, many seem set on lawlessness and living life vicariously without much concern for the rights of their fellow citizens.
Rather than spend hourss reading through more than 100 passages on justice found in the books of Psalms, Proverbs and Isaiah, I simply felt led to pick just a few passages that I found meaningful. I trust they will be valuable to you in coming to grips with justice in this world in which we all must live.
Let’s start with a single verse from Leviticus 19:18: “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.”
Please read the Passages to Ponder for more salient verses from Leviticus. These are God’s words transcribed by Moses 4,000 years ago!
Now let’s move to Deuteronomy 16:20: “Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may possess and live in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Once again, I’d like you to turn to the Passages to Ponder and read the verses (God’s words) that precede this verse.
Now let’s look at the words of wisdom conveyed by King Solomon found in Ecclesiastes 3:16-17:
“And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment — wickedness was there, in the place of justice — wickedness was there. I thought in my heart, ‘God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed.’”
What I personally get out of this particular passage is this: God has this justice/judgment issue under control. We can deliberate justice and lawlessness, but our Father in Heaven is the One in charge.
Let me wrap up my thoughts on this controversial topic. Many of us have been blessed to be born in America and many have become naturalized citizens of this great nation.
We all must do our part in observing the laws of our land and support our local, state and national leaders while placing our ultimate trust in God.
After all, this nation came into existence through the grace of God Almighty!
Let us pray that we might live our live and serve this country in a way that pleases our Lord.
