The McClelland Street Market in the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center is recruiting high school students who want to be part of Santa Maria’s youth employment program.
The McClelland Street Market, at 600 S. McClelland St., is the primary worksite of a 16-week paid job exploration program in which teens gain leadership skills and experience in the food service and market-retail industries.
Participants put in 10-20 hours per week while learning how to prepare hot and cold food items; work as a cashier; handle food and equipment safely; and provide excellent service to all customers.
Students will also work on their communication skills with adults, and learn how to develop positive work ethics, both of which can be valuable assets throughout their careers.
Applicants must be in high school and at least 16 years of age. They must be eligible for employment in the United States, and be approved for a work permit from their school.
Applications are available at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center. Deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The McClelland Street Market is open 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday, and noon-7:30 p.m. Saturday. Applicants must be available to work weekdays during after-school hours and on Saturday.
