The Wooden Hall Concerts will present Australian fingerstyle guitarist Joe Robinson, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Alhecama Theatre, 914 Santa Barbara St.
Robinson is a force in the pantheon of exceptional artists and has joined an exclusive group of performers whose impact shapes the American musical culture.
Self-taught in the bush of Temagog, Australia, Robinson has collaborated and taught with Tommy Emmanuel and Rodney Crowell.
He performs mind-bending chord work, solos that redefine what can be milked from a guitar, and inspired singing in his signature tenor voice.
“The more I play, the less I think about it. The less I think about it, the more I can dedicate myself to experiencing the undertones of harmony, rhythm, melody, rhyme and narrative,” Robinson said.
Robinson will teach his first small, interactive workshop in the area at 3:30 p.m., also on June 29, focusing on guitar technique, arranging and composition. Cost is $35.
He regularly teaches masterclasses with Emmanuel and at Berklee, Belmont and other conservatories in Europe and Asia.
The nonprofit, volunteer Santa Barbara Acoustic Music Association produces the Wooden Hall Concerts, which host acoustic musicians in an intimate setting.
Seats may also be available for $25 cash at the door; all proceeds go to the artists and the Trust for Historic Preservation for the use of the venue.
