The Santa Barbara County Education Office tips its hat to the five Santa Barbara County elementary schools recognized as 2025 California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education.
The honored schools are:
- Aliso Elementary (Carpinteria Unified)
- Vieja Valley Elementary (Hope School District)
- Peabody Charter (Santa Barbara Unified)
- Adelante Charter (Santa Barbara Unified)
- Washington Elementary (Santa Barbara Unified)
“Each year, only a select group of schools across California are named Distinguished Schools, a title that reflects exceptional student outcomes and a strong, positive school culture,” said Susan Salcido, Santa Barbara County schools superintendent.
“We proudly celebrate the five Santa Barbara County schools recognized for their standout commitment to students and their communities,” she said. “This recognition speaks to the deep dedication of educators, staff, and families who work every day to support student learning and well-being.”
Representatives from winning schools from across the state will be recognized at the California School Recognition Program Awards Ceremony on May 30.
The Distinguished Schools program honors schools based on their performance and progress on state indicators, such as test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate, as specified by the California School Dashboard.
